Booker at Team Warren

Booker was born on August 20, 2012 and was bred by Jake Berkowitz in Alaska, USA. Booker, his ancestors, and his siblings are all working sled dogs in racing kennels across North America. Booker himself is a very accomplished Team Dog who has successfully completed many races, many of which are Iditarod qualifiers, including the Eagle Cap Extreme, Yukon Quest, and Race to the Sky. Booker did actually compete in the Iditarod once, but had to be dropped due to a minor wrist injury.

Booker has a strong work ethic in harness, but also has a wonderful off switch and is calm, confident, and stable in home and public settings, even when being handled by strangers. He is housed in the traditional sledding kennel fashion of a designated chain spot within a dog lot on Team Warren’s property. This method of containment is extremely common for sledding kennels, where the dogs are taken out daily for intense exercise during conditioning months, and for racing during the cold season. During non-racing months, Laurie allows her sled dogs to take turns coming inside the home and playing off leash on her acreage.

Despite living in close proximity to many other intact males, Booker displays no same-sex aggression. He is also respectful and maintains a safe distance from the livestock and poultry on the property. Booker shows an intense desire to be near his handler, even if he is not very familiar with them, and has shown that he is quick to pick up on learning new training concepts. He has no objections to a full-body hands on evaluation, which is important for racing dogs, since they are inspected by a veterinarian prior to races.

Booker’s excellent health, structure, and temperament all culminate in a dog who we feel will be an incredible addition to our breeding program. Booker has been approved as a new Foundation Dog (Outcross) for the Tamaskan Dog breed by the Tamaskan Dog Register (TDR) and the International Tamaskan Register (ITR). He is only permitted to produce 2 Tamaskan Dog litters worldwide between the years of 2021 to 2028. If 3 or less of his Tamaskan Dog offspring have gone on to breed by 2028, then frozen semen will be available for a potential 3rd registered Tamaskan Dog litter. Currently, the second of Booker’s permitted litters has already been spoken for. We very much look forward to seeing how he will contribute to the Tamaskan Dog breed!
