What we expect from this litter…

We expect Kodi and Fay to produce puppies who will bond very strongly to their families and make excellent house dogs. Kodi’s goofy and clownish personality with Fay’s gentle sweetness is something we’re greatly looking forward to seeing combined in their offspring. These puppies will be trainable both on and off lead like their parents, and athletically built with the ability to excel at hiking and dog sports, but with a good off switch. Kodi has peaked several Colorado mountains with his co-owners and enjoys a full life of hiking off-lead and accompanying his owners around town and at the gym. At home, though, he also enjoys snuggling on the couch and getting plenty of belly rubs from his co-owners. Fay also has proven to have a reliable recall off-lead and absolutely lives for meeting and cuddling every single person she sees (literally, every single person!). She expends her energy in short bursts of zoomies in the yard, but prefers to spend the vast majority of her days as a couch potato. While we expect to see a range of energy levels in this litter, overall, we still expect them to be lower energy than Kodi and able to adapt to the activity levels of their owners. They will likely be more energetic as rambunctious puppies, but settle into a more moderate energy level as adults.

Same-sex aggression is not expected in this litter. Both Kodi and Fay get along great with same-sex dogs, although care should always be taken to help teach “teenager” dogs to mind their manners as they grow up. We believe these pups will do best in homes with at least one other dog, or in homes where they can have regularly scheduled playtime with other friendly dogs.

Prey drive is expected to be moderate in this litter, although when we say moderate, that may be higher than the average dog owner is familiar with. However, both Kodi and Fay have learned to recall away from prey with consistent training, and we expect the same for their puppies. Proper supervision as puppies and young adults around small animals, especially ones who might dart around, will be necessary while the pup learns a solid “leave-it.”

We do not expect to see any resource guarding behavior in these puppies, although we always practice “trading up” with our litters before they go home, so that they can start learning the concept a prized possession can be a good experience. This is something that we strongly encourage all of our owners to continue practicing once their puppy arrives home, regardless of wolf content (or lack thereof).

While these will be indoor dogs, we will still require a fully fenced yard. 6 ft tall residential fencing is acceptable - dig guards are recommended, but not mandatory. Both Kodi and Fay are large, athletic dogs and their puppies will be, too. Ensuring that our homes take adequate measures to keep their pups safe and sound at home is important to us as their breeder.

The size of these puppies is expected to range between about 26-29 inches at the shoulder and between 60-90 lbs. Males will likely be slightly taller and heavier than females.
